especially if all you have is mud!
On my birthday(back in May) Shane asked me what I wanted and I said
SOD!
I realize to most people this doesn't sound like a fun birthday gift, but anyone who has had to deal with no yard and mud understands my excitement.
I didn't want to go through a 3rd spring of MUD.
So with the help of borrowing a trencher and backhoe, Shane and I got to work digging trenches for the sprinkling system.
from the "Tremors" movie or a Gopher gone mad.
On a mere chance we went to look at a friends house who had just layed sod and they had about 1000 ft left over that we bought from them.
This happened at 8:00 at night and we were told to have the sod put down by the next afternoon or it wouldn't make it. So we put the kids to bed. (All but our little night owl Lilla) and went to work.
I love this picture of Shane! His pants rolled up feeling the grass between his toes. Ahhh... sometimes it's nice to see the little boy in him come out. he he
This is my absolute fave picture. Shane held Lilla on top of the sod to look at the stars. It's so sweet and just precious to me!
What a good daddy he is!
We stayed up till 11:00 getting as much down as we could.
The next morning on the way to the School bus stop Questen had to first make a pit stop on the grass.
Violet was still half asleep, I think.
This is a picture from the night before. A very tired mommy and Lilla who was finally winding down a bit!

He he, He's so funny.
He said, "mom I don't want to go to school I just want to take a nap on the nice cool grass."
She was so excited to put her toes in it and
asked if her and Lilla could have a picnic for lunch on it.
Even our animals were rolling in the grass they seemed just as excited as we were.
A few weeks later we had the call to go get the other 3500 square feet which we layed last weekend. It's been a busy summer.
I totally recommend laying your own sod. We've had fun and it's been good to teach the kids how to help.
and Hey after shoveling and raking and hauling I lost 5lbs!
If that isn't incentive I don't know what is!
I'll have to post a picture when it is finished and cleaned up.
Wishing everyone the Best summer and may your grass(or at least the weeds) be green!

I am so jealous. You should have called us, we would have come and help!! Especially if the weight loss is included. I can't wait until we get our sod!!
You don't need to worry about the weight loss, Amber! But thanks, for offering to help that would have been great!
Getting grass is the best present ever I think. It looks really nice.. I love your house it looks really cute too.
we drove by your house saturday your yard looked so good you guys have done alot of work! I ask for those kind of presents for my birthday they are the best!
Congrats on getting your sod! It is a lot of hard work but SOOO worth it. It's hard not having a yard and dealing with mud all the time. I was so happy when we finally got our yard in too.
Have a great summer!
